Moving house is one of the most stressful things you can do. Relocating to a different part of the town or another state can create a lot of anxiety. However, there are a few things you can do to help you deal with relocation nervousness. We asked Arthur Hall, CEO of Atlant Movers to share some tips that will help you to reduce your anxiety, making your move a more pleasant experience.
Tip 1 – Take Time off Work
If you can take some time off work to move house you will be doing yourself a big favor. Attempting to pack, relocate and unpack is stressful enough and you need to give it your full attention. Take at least one week off work to move and ask someone to look after your children if you can.
Don’t make the mistake of assuming you’ll be happy to move home while also coping with whatever your job throws at you. You’ll be stressed, tired, and not in the mood to cope with a move. Moving can and usually does take longer than you think so make sure you take as much time off as possible, trust me, you’ll be pleased you did.
Tip 2 – Do as Much as you can in Advance
One of the best things you can do to help with you move is to get as much as you can done in advance. Consider redirecting your mail so that every letter is sent your new address. Tell your energy suppliers where you’re moving to. Don’t forget to tell your doctor, dentist and anyone else that needs to know. Doing all of this before the move mean you will have a lot less to deal with once you’re in your new home.
If you have the time and inclination make a plan of where every piece of furniture is going to live in your new home. This will save a lot of time and effort on the day of the move. Don’t forget to think about what you’re going to eat, wear, and do in the days following your move. Plan as much as you can in advance and your life will be much easier.
Tip 3 – Take Some Time Out
Moving is stressful, you’ll have 101 things to do and not enough time to do it in. However, you will need to take some time out for the sake of your sanity. Find somewhere quiet to sit or lay down and take some time out. Breath in deeply and count to five. Exhale for a count of five and repeat this for at least a few minutes. Chances are you’ll feel better for having a bit of time out and you may see things from a new perspective.
Tip 4 – Think about Why You’re Moving
Are you moving house so you can be closer to work or those you love? Consider all of the positive reasons surrounding your move. When you look at the positives you’re more likely to feel better about your move. Are you moving somewhere smaller so you can save money? Are you moving somewhere new so you can have a fresh start? Think about why you are moving, concentrate on the positive aspects and you’re more likely to have a more positive moving experience.
Tip 5 – Ask for help
One of the best things you can do is to ask someone for help. Ask your friends or a family member to help you on the day of your move. They don’t have to lift boxes, they can just be there to make you a hot drink or offer some support. Having at least one person with you to put a positive slant on your day can make a world of difference.
We all get nervous and anxious when we’re moving home, it comes with the territory. However, you can make a difference in how you feel if you use the above tips to help you. Looking after yourself and getting some help are some of the best things you can do. Concentrate on the positives and you’ll find that your house move is not so stressful after all.
